Joe Kaufmann is currently managing counsel, privacy and data protection at Upwork, a tech platform that serves as a work marketplace for freelancers and clients across the globe. His career has centered around data and technology, including previous stops on the Data Protection team at Splunk (a data security and observability platform), as well as the Corporate Contracts group at Southern Company in support of their Technology Organization. During his 3L year, Kaufmann handled privacy matters while clerking for the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General.
Kaufmann maintains his CIPP/E, CIPP/US, and CIPM certifications from IAPP. He earned his law degree from Indiana University (Bloomington) in 2013 and his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and International Affairs from the University of Georgia in 2010.
