Biographical Information

J. Maria Waters currently works at Worsham Corsi Dobur & Berss as in-house staff counsel for Progressive Group of Insurance Companies in personal injury cases in which she represents Progressive and/or its insured. Previously, Waters served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, an assistant district attorney for both the Western and Eastern Judicial Circuits of Georgia, and an assistant solicitor-general for Athens-Clarke County. She also owned her own firm and worked as an associate for the Law Firm of Lester B. Johnson, III. She has taught a variety of legal courses at Southern New Hampshire University, Savannah Technical College, Columbia College, Grantham University and Athens Technical College. 

Waters has served on various State Bar of Georgia committees, including, but not limited to, the Investigative Panel, Disciplinary Rules and Procedures, and Professionalism. Waters also has made presentations on ethics. 

Waters earned her law degree from the University of Georgia in 1999 and her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Spelman College in 1996.
