Alumnus J. Anderson “Andy” Davis (J.D.'84) has created a unique scholarship fund at the University of Georgia School of Law that will benefit those who have participated in Scouts BSA (previously known as Boy Scouts of America) or Girl Scouts of the USA, particularly those who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout or earned the Gold Award.

The Andy and Janice Davis Family Scholarship Fund will also give preference to those who are, or have been, residents of Northwest Georgia, defined as the counties of Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon, Chattooga, Floyd, Bartow, Paulding, Polk, Haralson, Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens.

“Janice and I are thrilled to support law students at the UGA law school, offering them the same enriching experience I had,” Andy said. “We feel privileged for the education I received at Georgia Law and want to give back for the blessings we have received.”

Andy, a partner with Davis Lucas Carter in Rome, Georgia, is an Eagle Scout and he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Northwest Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America. He is also a longtime supporter of the School of Law, and remains an active member of the Law School Alumni Council after having served as president from 2017 to 2018.

"I am grateful to the Davis family for this generous commitment of $450,000," Dean Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge said. "Additionally, I would like to thank the University of Georgia Foundation and its chair, Allison C. Ausband, for providing matching funds, which will allow this scholarship to help turn the dream of becoming an attorney into a reality for future law students."

He added: "It is investments like this in the School of Law that drive our ongoing success as we redefine what it means to be a great national public law school. Gifts such as this from the Davis family play an important role in making a first-rate legal education accessible to those who wish to be future legal leaders for state and society."
