Congratulations to third-year student Christopher J. Bertrand for receiving a Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Externship Student Award for his "excellence in externship fieldwork" and "exceptionally thoughtful, self-reflective participation in an accompanying externship seminar." The Clinical Legal Education Association is a national organization that advocates for clinical legal education to be a fundamental component in the education of lawyers.
The School of Law is pleased to announce the 100% success rate of its first-time takers of the 2021 February Georgia bar exam and congratulates its graduates on this achievement during a very trying time. "This outstanding result contributes to the University of Georgia School of Law's vision to be the best return on investment in legal education," School of Law Dean Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge said. "Our bar exam preparation working group, led by Assistant Dean Tony Waller, connects with all of our students as they prepare to sit for the bar through a variety of initiatives like bar prep stipends and our Bar Exam Success Teams. Passing the bar is an important first step for our students as they embark on their careers to become future leaders for state and society. The entire law school community - including faculty, staff and fellow Law Dawgs - is committed to their success."
Congratulations to 2021 graduate Raneem Ashrawi for receiving an Equal Justice Works Fellowship, which is considered one of the most prestigious and competitive post-graduate legal fellowships in the country. As an EJW Fellow, she will advocate for Georgia youth with behavioral and mental health needs by advancing their access to the preventive care and reasonable accommodations to which they are entitled under federal law.
Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold D. Melton will deliver the University of Georgia School of Law's 2021 Commencement address May 22 in Stegeman Coliseum, with social distancing measures in place. Approximately 215 students will be eligible to participate in this year's ceremony for Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Master in the Study of Law (M.S.L) candidates. The ticketed event will start at 10 a.m. with social distancing measures and the university's Clear Bag Policy in effect.
