ACS - Lunch and Learn: Gun Control Legislation & You

to

UGA ACS is proud to host speakers from the Gifford Center and March For Our Lives to come speak to students about the importance of gun control. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 692 mass shootings in 2021, and 610 in 2020. And these numbers don’t include the roughly 20,000 other gun homicides, 25,000 gun suicides and 115,000 non-fatal gun injuries—including the 18,000 children shot and killed or wounded every year. Gun violence doesn’t just affect the victims.

Please join GAWL-UGA in a viewing of the documentary titled The Recall: Reframed. This film examines the 2018 recall of California Judge Aaron Persky, who lost his judgeship after handing down a sentence deemed too lenient by many in the infamous sexual assault case involving Stanford swimmer Brock Turner. The recall came at the height of the #MeToo movement, and some hailed it as a victory against rape culture, white privilege, and a system stacked against survivors of sexual violence.
