Kannan Rajarathinam worked for the United Nations in a variety of capacities for more than 30 years. Most recently, he was a political affairs officer in Somalia, where he drafted major cables and policy documents and analyzed political and security issues. Other positions held by Rajarathinam over the years include senior political affairs officer, head of office, senior planning and coordination officer, chief civil affairs officer and legal officer. He has worked in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Cyprus, Croatia and Bosnia. He also taught at the University of Madras in India as a guest faculty member and as a junior professor. Presently, he serves on the Dean Rusk International Law Center Advisory Council. Rajarathinam earned his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science from the University of Madras, his Master of Laws from UGA, and his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Tufts University.
