Appellate Litigation Clinic participant and third-year student Noah C. Nix recently presented oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Santiaguez v. Garland. The clinic's client is a gay transgender rights advocate from the state of Guerrero, Mexico, who seeks deferral of removal under the Convention Against Torture to prevent being sent back to his home country, where his brother was recently killed due to his sexual orientation.
Congratulations to third-year student Jonah D. Chadwick Griego and 2009 alumnus Michael Eshman for being recognized at the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association’s 2022 Cocktails Around Latin America event. Griego was named Law Student of the Year and Eshman was presented with the Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award.
Xavier R. Brown and Jeremy T. Headrick have been recently promoted. Brown (who joined the law school staff in 2017) is now the assistant dean for admissions, diversity and inclusion & strategic initiatives, while Headrick (who has been with the law school since 2014) has become the senior director of law school advancement. Both lead offices of immense institutional importance and will help the School of Law realize its vision of being the best return on investment in legal education and achieve its goal of redefining what it means to be a great national public law school.
