Georgia Capital Defender – Athens Office

The Georgia Capital Defender is charged with providing defense to all indigent defendants in Georgia facing the death penalty. The Capital Defender maintains six offices, including one in Athens, which handles capital cases in a particular region. The Athens office includes two lawyers,  both trained and experienced in the complexities of capital litigation. The office also includes a mitigation specialist and a fact investigator. Work assigned to students varies but typically includes performing fact investigation, conducting legal research, and writing.
