Robert W. Smith, Jr.

Robert W. Smith Jr. currently serves as the general counsel of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia. He joined the organization in 2015 as a RICO resource prosecutor and was named general counsel the next year. He has argued successfully before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Smith is responsible for over 115 reported appellate decisions. In addition to advising prosecutors in the state of Georgia on issues of ethics and professionalism as general counsel, he attends the yearly meetings of the Georgia General Assembly and assists the executive director and other prosecutors in speaking on legislative issues and matters to members of the General Assembly. 

After graduating from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, Smith served as a judicial clerk for the Superior Court judges in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. After his clerkship, he worked as a prosecutor in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit and in Coweta County. He then served five years as an assistant attorney general before returning to prosecution as an assistant district attorney in the Griffin Circuit for seven years. In addition to handling a trial calendar, he was responsible for all post-conviction motions and appeals in the circuit's four counties.
