The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is the world’s premier public engineering organization, responsible for building critical infrastructure such as the Panama Canal, the Pentagon, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, and the Washington Monument. The mission is to deliver vital engineering solutions to secure our nation, energize our economy, and reduce disaster risk. The South Atlantic Division (SAD) is one of eight regional offices responsible for overseeing military and water-resources design, construction, and operation in the eight states in the Southeast, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The SAD headquarters sits in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Current notable projects include restoring the Everglades (the largest ecosystem restoration project in the World), responding to Hurricanes Helene, and Milton, constructing training facilities on Fort Stewart, and operating and maintaining more than 6,000 miles of federal navigable channel and 29 major harbors in the region.
SAD attorneys perform dynamic legal work as members of teams of talented professionals. Externs will meaningfully participate in and support the work of attorneys in SAD and throughout all six offices in the region. Practice areas include contract law; environmental law; federal administrative law, fiscal law; ethics law; labor and employment law; litigation; real estate law; and many more.
Students will be expected to serve the majority of the externship in-person at the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center in downtown Atlanta.
SAD seeks students with a demonstrated interest in public and community service, excitement for the mission, and willingness to learn.
