Biographical Information

John L. Douglas currently serves as the chief legal, risk and compliance officer of TIAA. In addition to the legal, risk and compliance activities, he is also responsible for government relations, regulatory affairs and a series of strategic projects on an enterprise-wide basis for TIAA. He is a member of the firm's executive committee and is vice chairman and director of TIAA Bank, FSB. He previously was head of the bank regulatory practice at Davis Polk & Wardwell in both the New York and Washington, D.C., offices and served as general counsel of the FDIC during the savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s.

He earned his bachelor's degree cum laude from Davidson College and his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from UGA, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served as a notes editor for the Georgia Law Review.
