The School of Law regretfully shares the news of the passing of Class of 2023 law student Caleb W. Thompson on November 4, 2022. As a classmate, colleague, student and friend, he was a valued member of the law school's community. Please keep his family in your hearts and prayers, and remember one of our school’s greatest strengths is our sense of community.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 14, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown, PA. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM at the Church. The service will be livestreamed in the Larry Walker Room of Dean Rusk Hall.
In January, Caleb’s family would like to hold a celebration of his life in Athens. The School of Law is working closely with them and will share the details when they become available.
It is important to remember that we can find strength and comfort in each other today and in the days ahead. Please reach out to faculty, staff and students if you are in need or just want to talk. Be sure to reach out to the law school’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services Clinician Dawn Healy or use CAPS’ walk-in service at the University Health Center (Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) or call 706-542-2273 for support 24/7. Additional resources can be found in the MyGeorgiaLaw portal at https://portal.law.uga.edu/well-being-resources.
The School of Law maintains a Mental Health Support Fund to help defray the costs for students who seek counseling. The law school’s Quiet Room (Hirsch Hall 302) also is available if you just need a space for reflection. If you have any questions about these resources, please contact Dr. Casey Graham.
Caleb is survived by his mother and father, Patricia and James Thompson; his brother, Josh Thompson; and a wealth of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Caleb W. Thompson Memorial Fund at the University of Georgia School of Law at the following address: Office of Law School Advancement, 225 Herty Drive, Athens, GA 30602-6012, note “Caleb W. Thompson Memorial Fund” on the memo line.
