Taher Benany

Taher S. Benany serves as associate director of the University of Georgia School of Law’s Dean Rusk International Law Center, a role he assumed in 2025. In this position, he oversees global training programs and leads the planning and implementation of international law research initiatives, events and conferences.

Benany earned his Bachelor of Laws from Cairo University in 2017, graduating in the top 10% of his class. As a Fulbright Scholar, he studied law at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He subsequently practiced as an international lawyer in multiple capacities, including with the European Agency for Criminal Justice and Cooperation. He has also represented an international organization and an African State before the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Benany is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the University of Georgia’s Department of Philosophy. His research focuses on legal theory, jurisprudence and law beyond legal positivism. He additionally serves as an associate editor for the University of California, Berkeley Journal of Comparative Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law.

Earlier in his career, Benany earned a Bachelor of Science in Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery in 2010, graduating as valedictorian of his class.

Benany is fluent in Arabic, English and French.
