Jean Goetz Mangan

Jean Goetz Mangan serves as a lecturer at the University of Georgia School of Law. Since 2018, she has taught legal writing courses and worked with the law school’s bar exam preparation support efforts. Under her direction, UGA Law students learn bar exam writing and test taking strategies and have achieved success.

Mangan is the author of two open education resources for students – one focusing on first-year legal writing and the other on criminal law drafting.

She previously served as the first staff attorney for the Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation (CEASE) Clinic at the School of Law. In this role, she was the first to try to verdict a case filed under the Hidden Predator Act, and she successfully mediated other cases on behalf of the clinic’s clients.

Before joining the law school, Mangan served as an assistant district attorney for both the Ocmulgee and Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Offices. She also worked in civil litigation, both for a plaintiffs’ civil litigation firm handling state and federal class actions using Georgia’s Debt Adjustment Act, as well as personal injury and medical malpractice claims. Additionally, she practiced at a defendants’ civil litigation firm that focuses on personal injury defense for trucking litigation matters.
