Drew I. Harris joined the University of Georgia School of Law as an assistant director of career development in the spring of 2026. In this role, he engages in employer outreach and promotion and provides career counseling and guidance to students.
He came to UGA with almost 20 years of legal experience, most recently working as an agency attorney with the New York City Department of Social Services for over eight years. As supervising attorney for the Richmond County (Staten Island) Office, he managed staff and attorneys, mentored new hires and developed relationships across departments and the courts. In 2024, he and his fellow attorneys were awarded the Excellence Award for Cross-Collaboration.
While in New York, he also mentored first time college students pursuing legal careers through the City College of New York’s City Tutors program.
Harris’ other professional experience includes tracking and analyzing legislation for the Center for Reproductive Rights in New York City; interning for U.S. Representative Steve Cohen with Tennessee’s Ninth Congressional District in Washington, D.C.; and reviewing Medicaid appeals for the Tennessee Department of Human Services in Nashville.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from Delta State University and his Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Mississippi.
