Michael and Angi Evert Family Endowment for the Veterans Legal Clinic:

The purpose of the Fund is to provide support for the Veterans Legal Clinic (“Clinic”) at the School of Law (“School”). The Clinic serves veterans and their dependents, helping them to obtain the benefits they have earned through service to our country. The Clinic contacts veterans in Athens and the surrounding fifteen (15) counties to connect with silent, vulnerable, or low-income veterans who may lack access to legal services or face special barriers to obtaining or keeping benefits. The Clinic also provides critical real-world experience for the School’s law students working in the clinic, who:

• Advocate with administrative agencies, including the Veterans and Social Security Administrations;
• Develop claims for disability, working with doctors and mental health providers; and/or
• Interact with clients, including veterans and their dependents, through interviews, counseling, advocacy, and negotiation
