Kerry Harike Joedecke Memorial Award for Excellence -
The purpose of the Fund is to provide an award to a member of the Moot Court Board within the School of Law. The recipient shall be a third-year law student who has made the greatest overall contribution to both the Moot Court Program and Law School community through unselfish service, academic achievement and strength of character.
This Fund was established in memory of Kerry Harike Joedecke (J.D. '97). Kerry died on June 30, 2002 from complications from her battle with leukemia, just a few days before her 30th birthday. She was married to Jim Joedecke (J.D. '96) and was a former law clerk to Judge Lamar Davis, Jr., Bankruptcy Court, in Savannah, Georgia. Kerry was an associate at the Atlanta office of the Rogers & Hardin law firm. She served as a recent law graduate appointee to the Law School's Board of Visitors from 1997 thru 1999 and also served a term on the Law School Association's Younger Law Alumni Committee. In 1997 she and two other law school classmates, Chandler Mason and Tom Mew, won the 47th Annual National Moot Court Competition held in New York City. The National Moot Court Competition is the oldest and most prestigious moot court tournament in the country, sponsored by the Association of the Bar of New York. Teams from 160 law schools entered.
