Gabel is the 17th president to serve at the University of Minnesota, one of the largest university systems in the U.S. Her scholarship focuses on the public higher education mission, ethical governance and women’s leadership.
Under her leadership, the University of Minnesota established its first systemwide strategic plan, surpassed $1 billion in annual research expenditures and advanced transformational partnerships, including NXT GEN MED, the groundbreaking partnership between the University of Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic and Google.
Gabel was previously the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of South Carolina. She has been recognized with numerous service, research and teaching awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship. Gabel holds a J.D. from UGA.
