The Veterans Legal Clinic recently obtained an approximately $139,000 non-taxable one-time award for a client, as well as ongoing monthly payments of $1,800, from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Third-year students Anthony D. Rodriguez, Maddox J. Rose and Nathan C. Whisamore assisted with the client at various steps in the appeals process, while Veterans Legal Clinic Staff Attorney Ethan Smith presented oral argument.
“While the monetary benefit will have a significant impact on the client’s life, possibly more impactful for the client was the validation of his service by the VA,” Smith said. “He struggled with finding the words to explain what it meant to finally receive validation of his service over 50 years later.”
