Julian B. McDonnell Prize Fund -
The purpose of the Fund is to provide an annual award to an outstanding student in the Field of Commercial Law within the School of Law.
Julian B. McDonnell (U.Va., LL.B. ’66) was born in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile and the University of Virginia School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, including a non-combat assignment on the corp-level staff in Vietnam.
Professor McDonnell first taught at the University of Alabama School of Law and then practiced with the Hansell, Post law firm in Atlanta. He joined the UGA School of Law faculty in 1972 and taught contracts and commercial law at the law school continuously except for visits at the University of Texas, University of Puerto Rico and Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires. He was the principal draftsperson of the Georgia Financial Institutions Code.
Since 1985, Professor McDonnell has ben the principal author and editor of Secured Transactions Under the Uniform Commercial Code, a five volume treatise Published by Matthew Bender, which is revised three time annually. He has authored another treatise dealing with warranty law as well as an overview Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. Professor McDonnell retired from teach on June 1, 2003.
