About
The Federalist Society of Law & Public Policy (FedSoc) is a group of conservatives and libertarians dedicated to reforming the current legal order. The purpose of the University of Georgia Student Chapter of the Federalist Society (UGA FedSoc) is to foster critical thought and debate about the application of conservative principles to the law at the University of Georgia School of Law (UGA Law). UGA FedSoc embraces the principle that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to the integrity of the Constitution of the United States of America, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is—not what it should be. UGA FedSoc seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities. This entails reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law. It also entails restoring recognition of these norms among lawyers, judges, law students, and professors. UGA FedSoc aims to achieve its goals by inviting prominent public officials, judges, and scholars to visit UGA Law's campus and deliver speeches, participate in debates, and meet with students.
Membership for the Georgia Student Chapter of the FedSoc is open to all UGA Law students (JD, LLM, & MSL), faculty, and administration.
