As part of our Well-Being Week programming, the law school will be sponsoring a Mental Health First Aid training for law school students, faculty, and staff on Monday, October 10 & Tuesday, October 11. This 8-hour course will be delivered in two sessions from 4:30pm-9:00pm each evening. Dinner will be provided, and participants must attend both sessions. There is no cost to attend and space is limited. An RSVP link will be emailed to the law school community.

What is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)?
Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, MHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the MHFA course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well.

MHFA is a national research and evidence-based program that equips participants with the skills to provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. We are lucky to have secured an amazing MHFA facilitator, Joe Ankus, who is an experienced attorney, legal recruiter, and member of the Florida Bar's Special Committee on Mental Health & Wellness.
