In celebration of Martin Chair Andrea L. Dennis' recently published book, Rap on Trial: Race, Lyrics and Guilt in America, discussion will be held featuring Dennis and Dr. Bettina L. Love with UGA's College of Education.
Published by The New Press, Rap on Trial examines the use of "rap lyrics as criminal evidence to convict and incarcerate young men of color" based on hundreds of court cases from across the country.
Law Librarians Carol Watson and Heather Simmons will present a Lunch n' Learn on Administrative Law topics such as guidance documents and formal regulations.
No reservation required! Pizza will be served, but please bring your own beverage.
The Summer Academic Success Program runs August 3 -12.
This class for UGA faculty and staff explores the legal frameworks governing speech and expression rights for members of the UGA community. Topic areas covered include, without limitation: forum analysis, time/place/manner restrictions, hate speech, public employee doctrine, academic freedom and heckler's veto.
Participants will learn about significant court decisions relating to speech rights in the higher education context and see how First Amendment principles are applied to case studies.
Even virtually, we want you to put your wellness at the front of your mind! In addition to these activities, take a look at the Health & Wellness Resources on the My Georgia Law Portal.
Please join us for the next Pet Therapy Zoom! The stars of the show will be all of our pets (aspiring therapy dogs, cats, plants, other - all are welcome!), but humans without pets should join as well! We are all going to miss those adorable pups in the Law Library Foyer this exam period, but we hope Zooming with our pets can be the next best thing. Feel free to pop in just for a minute, or stay for the entire half hour - up to you!
