The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or "CARES Act," signed into law on March 27, 2020, provides for $349 billion in Small Business Administration (SBA) loan guarantees and subsidies, and additional funding for SBA programs. One new SBA program created by the CARES Act is the Paycheck Protection Program (the "PPP"). The PPP has the potential to provide significant relief for small businesses, but that relief requires application to the program.

The stars of the show will be all of our pets (aspiring therapy dogs, cats, other - all are welcome!), but humans without pets should join as well! We are all going to miss those adorable pups in the Law Library Foyer this exam period, but we hope Zooming with our pets can be the next best thing. Words cannot adequately express the depth of emotion felt by many in our community following the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and other Black Americans. Such tragic and unnecessary losses of life are impossible to comprehend and, in light of this, we are sure that many of you have engaged in countless conversations to try to make sense of the state of race relations in our country.

2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast

Hamilton Holmes Jr., son of Hamilton Holmes Sr. and a business development director for Pieper O'Brien Herr Architects in Alpharetta, will present the keynote address for the 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast.

In place of the traditional ticketed breakfast, the event will be celebrated with a video premiere on Friday, Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. on UGA's Facebook page. This virtual event is free and open to the public. The theme for this year's program is, "The Power of the Dream: Forging a Path Forward."

Book Repair Clinic

Book Repair Clinic is back! On Wednesday and Thursday, February 19th-20th, members of the Law Library's Collection Services department Rachel Evans and David Rutland will offer a clinic in the law library foyer for making small repairs to your law textbooks for free! Examples include: if a few pages are coming out or torn, or if the front cover is loose or has detached from the book, or if the spine is damaged. Come get these things patched up! Plan to drop your book off with us and pick it up later with a claim ticket that we'll give you.

2020 Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic Virtual Conference

The 2020 Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic Virtual Conference will be held in a webinar format. Topics will focus on the commercial and sexual exploitation of children, LGBTQ+ Youth in foster care and creative justice for survivors. The virtual conference's keynote lecture will be delivered by Director Tom C. Rawlings of the Georgia Division of Children and Family Services. Attorneys participating in the live webinar may earn up to 4 CLE credits.
