Bagels on the Lawn with Rabbi Refson of UGA Chabad. Please join us on Monday, March 2 from 12-1pm on the lawn outside of the law school for a lunch of bagels, shmear, and lox! In addition to the nosh, the Rabbi will be hosting a conversation - either lecture and questions or Q&A style - so please come with any and all questions. Topics include, but are not limited to: Judaism in general, Judaic law, and the intersection of American and Jewish law.

The purpose of this panel is to highlight the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal field. The keynote speaker will speak about the impact of their role as a Chief Talent, Diversity, & Inclusion Officer while at their law firm and how it has influenced the firm and individuals within the firm as a whole. Additionally, our speaker will discuss about their own personal experience with diversity as an attorney.

ACS - Lunch and Learn: Gun Control Legislation & You

UGA ACS is proud to host speakers from the Gifford Center and March For Our Lives to come speak to students about the importance of gun control. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 692 mass shootings in 2021, and 610 in 2020. And these numbers don’t include the roughly 20,000 other gun homicides, 25,000 gun suicides and 115,000 non-fatal gun injuries—including the 18,000 children shot and killed or wounded every year. Gun violence doesn’t just affect the victims.

This event celebrates Black History Month through a partnership of ACS and BLSA to educate law students on the long history of housing discrimination and racism in Athens and how UGA has participated in that injustice. We will be having speakers from Linnentown and other local advocacy groups that are passionate about this issue to speak with law students about how we can get involved locally in this important issue. The School of Law and UGA Libraries are co-sponsoring this screening of Donald L. Hollowell: Foot Soldier for Equal Justice, a documentary centering on one of the attorneys who supported Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter in desegregating the University of Georgia. The Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection is screening the documentary from their collection, with introductory remarks offered by Mary Miller from BMA.
