The Anatomy of a Litigation: The Flint Water Crisis

This course examines the life cycle of a complex civil litigation through the lens of the Flint Water Crisis. Using real pleadings, judicial opinions, investigative reporting, and settlement materials, students will analyze how claims are identified, framed, litigated, and resolved in a high-stakes, multi-defendant public-harm case. The course emphasizes strategic decision-making, procedural posture, and the interaction between law, politics, science, and community harm.
