Quick Reference Instructions for Emergency Situations

Evacuation plans are posted throughout law school buildings

Fire
- Primary evacuation assembly site: North Campus Quadrangle in front of the School of Law, east side of School of Law
- Secondary evacuation assembly site: UGA Main Library or Herty Field

- Evacuate building immediately – evacuation is mandatory but do not use elevators
- Call the UGA Police at 911 or 706-542-2200 immediately then notify your supervisor as appropriate
- School of Law contact: Dean’s Office at 706-542-7140
- Take personal belongings such as keys, purses, coats that you may need
- Do not re-enter the building for any reason until directed to do so

Severe weather
- Shelter areas in the building: Hirsch Hall: Rooms A and B at the north end of ground floor; Student Affairs and Registrar offices, ground floor; Career Development meeting rooms, ground floor; Law Library: basement; Law Library Annex: ground floor; Rusk Hall: ground floor rooms
- Do not use elevators
- During a
tornado, seek shelter on the lowest level of the building in an area devoid of windows and high ceilings

- During an
earthquake, take cover immediately, direct others to get under a desk, chair or table for shelter. If outside, move to an open area away from buildings

Accident/Injury/Illness
- In the event of a serious illness or injury on campus, immediately call the UGA Police at 911 or 706-542-2200 then notify your supervisor as appropriate

Internet/Cybersecurity issues
- Stop any action on your computer
- Report suspicious activity to law school Computing Services at 706-542-0895

Utility emergency
- Immediately report utility failures during regular work hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) to the Physical Plant Work Order Desk at 706-542-7456 then notify your supervisor as appropriate

Active shooter: Take whatever actions are necessary to protect your own life. If possible, flee the area. If flight is impossible, lock/barricade all doors and secure/conceal yourself in a safe area with room lights and cell phone ringers turned off

Hostage/Terrorist/Civil unrest: Do not attempt to negotiate with an individual or crowd unless directed by UGA Police
- Student crisis response: If you are working with a student who appears to be an immediate threat to his or her own safety or that of others, call UGA Police at 911 or 706-542-2200 and notify Dean’s Office

Bomb/Bomb threat/Suspicious package
- Primary evacuation location: North Campus Quadrangle in front of the School of Law, east side of School of Law
- Alternate evacuation location: UGA Main Library, Herty Field

- Do not open any suspicious item
- If you receive a bomb threat, remain calm and elicit as much information as possible from the caller
- Immediately call the UGA Police at 911 or 706-542-2200 and then notify your supervisor as appropriate

Assisting persons with a disability during an emergency
- Always ask an individual with a disability how you can help before attempting any rescue technique or giving assistance
