Biographical Information: 

J. Robert Persons currently serves as managing partner of Smith Moore, previously Carter & Ansley, where he supervises the budget, insurance and personnel for the 27-lawyer firm.  Prior to joining Smith Moore, he worked as an equity partner in Atlanta's Hurt, Richardson, Garner, Todd & Cadenhead and at Chicago-based Lord, Bissell and Brook.  He has 33 years of trial and courtroom experience and has co-authored several publications regarding various insurance issues, including Excess Liability.  Persons earned his bachelor's degree with distinction in American government from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1972, where he served as associate editor of the Georgia Law Review and earned selection to the National Order of Barristers.  He was elected in 2007 as a master of the School of Law's Joseph Henry Lumpkin American Inn Court.  Persons is currently co-chair of the Professional Liability Insurance Committee of the State Bar of Georgia.
