UGA Law Receives Big Gifts for Scholarship and Professorship

Carter Chair in Tort and Insurance Law Emeritus R. Perry Sentell Jr. and Chair of Law Emeritus Verner F. Chaffin were featured in the Daily Report regarding two major gifts to Georgia Law to fund a scholarship and professorship. Georgia Law received $500,000 from an anonymous donor to added to a scholarship fund for Sentell and $1 million from the Chaffin family to create a professorial chair in his name. In honor of Harvard University Press' release of Associate Professor Mehrsa Baradaran's book "How the Other Half Banks," there was a breakfast discussion on America's banking system held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., that featured: Simon Johnson, professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management; Lisa Donner, the executive director of Americans for Financial Reform; David Dayen, journalist; and Baradaran. Discussions centered on the complexities of the American banking system and the potential solution of postal banking.
