Walter Hellerstein delivers talk on formulary apportionment

Distinguished Research Professor & Shackelford Distinguished Professor in Taxation Law Walter Hellerstein presented a paper on formulary apportionment during a panel titled "Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base: Selected Issues of Technical Proposal" at the Group for Research on European and International Taxation (GREIT) Conference on Tax Mobility in Lisbon, Portugal, during June.

Ringhand has published "Aliens on the Bench:  Lessons in Identity, Race and Politics From the First "Modern" Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing to Today" in 2010 Michigan State Law Review 795 (2011) (symposium issue honoring the work of New York University law professor Barry Friedman).


Georgia Law's ACS chapter recognized at national conference

The Georgia Law chapter of the American Constitution Society was recently honored with a Network Building Award with special recognition for programming at the ACS National Convention in Washington, D.C. Additionally, third-year law student and Chapter President Karen S. Bemis was one of 21 students nationwide recognized at the conference as a Next Generation Leader for her experience and promise as an advocate of ACS's progressive mission.


UGA law school professor named inaugural holder of Smith Professorship

Georiga Law Professor Peter A. Appel has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Alex W. Smith Professorship in Law, which was established in memory of Alexander Wyly Smith III, a well-known Atlanta attorney, civic leader and philanthropist who died in 2008.

Georgia Law regrets to announce the passing of Hosch Professor Anne Proffitt Dupre. This highly respected scholar, teacher, mentor and friend passed away June 22. A 1988 alumna of Georgia Law, she joined the law school faculty in 1994 and specialized in education law and contract law.
