Georgia Law teams perform well at regional Transactional LawMeets

Congratulations to third-year students Katherine P. "Kate" Bell and Andy Shin and second-year student Chloe S. Ricke, who were named region champions at the Southeastern Regional Competition of the Transactional LawMeet held at Emory University recently. Congratulations also to third-year students Sarah C. McMahon and Chelsea G. Swanson and second-year student Lily D. Wilkerson, who received the Best Draft Award at the Southwestern Regional Competition of the Transactional LawMeet held at the South Texas College of Law recently.


Scholarship established in honor of former Georgia Law Dean Rebecca White

Georgia Law has announced the establishment of the Rebecca Hanner White Scholarship, named in honor of White, who recently stepped down as the leader of the school after more than 11 years of service. The scholarship was initiated by Georgia Law 1982 alumna and law school Board of Visitors Chair Kathelen V. Amos and her husband Dan, who agreed to match up to $100,000 in new gifts donated to the school for the creation of the scholarship fund. To date, more than $210,000 in gifts and pledges have been secured from alumni and friends for this effort.


Georgia Law to host annual music industry conference

Georgia Law’s Sports and Entertainment Law Society will host the 5th Annual Protect Athens Music Conference Tuesday, March 3, starting at 4:30 p.m., to be held at the 40 Watt Club in downtown Athens. The event is free and open to the public. The conference will address issues relevant to the intersection of law, music and business for musicians, students, professionals and anyone interested in music or the music business.


Georgia Law to host annual benefit auction for student fellowships

Georgia Law’s Equal Justice Foundation will host its 30th annual benefit auction Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at The Foundry (formerly the Melting Point) in downtown Athens. The evening will include both live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the event will go toward EJF summer fellowships, which help support Georgia Law students working in summer public interest positions for little or no compensation. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.


The 27th Annual Red Clay Conference to focus on public interests and private rights

Georgia Law’s 27th Annual Red Clay Conference, titled “Balancing Public Interests and Private Rights in Environmental Law,” will take place Friday, Feb. 27, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Larry Walker Room of Dean Rusk Hall. Pre-registration is requested. Eric T. Freyfogle, Swanlund Chair of Law at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will deliver the keynote address at 1 p.m.
